Upon Returning from New York

I thanked the Goddess Diana
Like all her acolytes
She has upheld the night with expectations
Blessed the architects with sensational stones
And built a city of brittle bones

Like an arrow
I unfurled on a subway car
Passing momentary fits of imagination
Passing supper times and wineless dinners
Ice creams bars built only for sinners
And they all smelled like pine

In Manhattan
They let an atom bomb play the fiddle
As Diana whittles out a skyscraper or two
Both acrobat and angel leap across the sky
Guided only by an incessant glow
With buildings that surge against flowing time
And lock Olympus in their shadow

A black and white cookie
Tastes like everything I've already had before
A snowy day that stings the tongue
A passionate night too blistery to forget
A winter time full of regret
And a sunny day I haven't gotten to yet

Someday
I'm going to put them all in a museum
Like the golden, ethereal, miniscule Diana
These moments must mean something to somebody
Like an ostrich pitcher or Egyptian tomb
These passing minutes in New York City
Fade against the current all too soon
