Cafe at Starlight

Dinner is not worth eating
No music
No cafe Starlight to keep my heart beating
Or coffee dream to help infuse it

"I would like some cream
Madam, like the cream in your eyes
And coffee... more and more dreams
To stir away in starlight themes"

Night after night, stars pass by
Not the ones we see in our sleep
But the artists who live as quick as they die
Fluttering poems only four words deep

"Miss I think your hair is beautiful
I think your art is nature... your eyes mature
Too far hurt to see
Do you even know who you are?"

I asked watching the leaves float away
Who was she anyways?
Who am I to halt and say
Three cups of coffee will brighten your day?

I stopped to add more sugar
Closed one eye to understand
The inner machinations, thoughts of her
Beauty of art, of hearts in her hands

"Madame I need to pay
For the thoughts I never said
For the dreams I never bred
For the sugar and cream I stole"

She paused with her dreary blue eyes
And starlight hair
With cares and thoughts of velvet size
Conformed to her thankless stare

She turned with empty hands and uttered nothing
On her journey back to her actress dream
Desperate for life, devoid of loving
I remained in the starlight of harmless themes
