Leah in the Coffee Shop

To Leah in the coffee shop:
(If that is indeed how you spell your name)
And to all who know and love her
And know that she hasn't changed
I can think of no other
With hair so brown and tame
And deep and deep like your eyes
I realize I am too late
To meet you at that coffee shop
By the beautifully painted lake

And I know that that coffee shop
Closes down every winter
The wooden walls, they splinter
With the orders they left unfilled
To the crowd that's growing thinner
And the sugar they've left unspilled
That's just sweet enough to be bitter
And the prettiest girl in the coffee shop
That's just sweet enough to be better
Finds the same snowy weather
No matter where she goes

So to you, I must offer
A poorly knit sweater
Or a jacket made of leather
Filled with the warmest thoughts I can muster
That I entrust to your dark brown hair
And the lovely eyes of a lively stare
Take care in the coldest weather
Take your beautiful heart into the bold world
And watch the crowd know your name
